Downtown Edmonton is set to welcome a significant addition to its landscape with the development of the new Warehouse Park.
Once complete, this huge park will cover an area that is roughly twice the size of Churchill Square. The Warehouse Park will cover 1.81 hectares (just over 3 NFL football fields) between 106 Street and Jasper Avenue to 102 Avenue.
The majority of the land is currently undeveloped and made up of surface parking lots, which means the project won’t require demolition of major buildings. And in this case, the parking lot is turning back into paradise which, I imagine, is just how Joni Mitchell would want it.
Construction on the expansive multi-use green space is anticipated to begin in 2024 with a projected completion sometime in 2025.
Features of the Edmonton Warehouse Park
Preliminary design of Warehouse Park is now complete. The design report outlines the design concept and key features of the project, which include the following:
- Off-leash dog park
- Playground
- Toboggan hill
- Basketball courts / snowbank ice rink
- Water feature and warming zone with gas fireplaces
- Public art installation
New Urban Oasis Will Benefit the Community
Multi-use green spaces provide a venue for community events, cultural activities, and recreational programs. Warehouse Park will be a gathering place for people of all ages and backgrounds, promoting social interaction and inclusivity.
The new Warehouse Park will offer a serene environment where people can relax, exercise, and socialize, fostering a sense of community and well-being.
With dedicated areas for sports, walking, and cycling, the park will be popular among residents and visitors alike who love to enjoy outdoor activities year-long.
Proposed Residential Developments Near Warehouse Park
Three exciting residential projects are in the works that will be located in close proximity to Warehouse Park.
THE PARKS
The Parks development will be a mixed-use complex featuring both residential and commercial spaces. The project will include two slim high-rise residential towers: one 35-storey rental tower facing Capital Boulevard and a 45-storey rental tower that will face Jasper Avenue. A 13-storey mid-rise building will connect the two towers.
Project highlights:
- 1,000+ residential units with floor plans ranging from studio apartments to 3-bedrooms
- Amenities including a rooftop green space
- Main floor commercial spaces
- Indoor access to Corona LRT Station
- A pedestrian-oriented walkway linking The Parks to the future Warehouse Park
The Shift
The Shift is a “transit-oriented” development that will feature 730 luxury rental apartments. Located directly across from Warehouse Park, the project will also be a mixed-use development with street-oriented townhomes and retail. Various units will be available in the two 29- and 35-storey towers that will sit atop a four storey podium.
Tower 106
Tower 106 is a 50-story, 155-metre tower proposal by Westrich Pacific and designed by Arc Studio. The tower will provide approximately 550 residential units and over 500 square metres of ground-floor commercial space.
The introduction of Warehouse Park is a significant step in enhancing Edmonton's urban fabric. It promises to deliver a blend of natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and community engagement, making downtown Edmonton an even more attractive place to live, work, and play.
